Microsoft acquires GitHub

Microsoft has acquired open-source code repository website, GitHub for a $7.5 billion in an all-stock deal. Github is home to 28 million active developers and 85 million repositories.
Nat Friedman, co-founder of Xamarin, will be taking on the role of GitHub’s CEO.
GitHub’s primary revenue source is paid accounts with enterprise users, allowing Developers to host private repositories along with many other features like Unlimited private repositories, Unlimited collaborators etc., with pricing starting from $7/user/month.
GitHub is free to use for public and open source projects.
"Microsoft is a developer-first company, and by joining forces with GitHub we strengthen our commitment to developer freedom, openness and innovation," - said Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft.
